Shriram Vijayakumar

Managing Director - DaVita India

Shriram's inspiration to start NephroLife in India began with a revelation that - "Every year, 300,000 people need some form of renal replacement therapy in India but less than 10% of them have access to kidney care, and most of them die in the first year."

Shriram started NephroLife in 2009 with an angel investment from ROI capital to establish the first of it's kind stand-along dedicated kidney care center in Bangalore with 22 beds, focused on improving the quality and longevity of life for patients. With the aid of unique clinical formats, technology enabled care and a holistic medical care approach, he has revolutionized the Indian dialysis market.

In 2011, he closed a second round of funding with VC major New Enterprise Associates and DaVita Inc. - a US-based Fortune 400 Company and one of largest kidney care providers worldwide with over 1,800 clinics. This gave birth to DaVita India. Today, DaVita India has emerged as India’s leading chain of high quality, no compromise kidney care centers. DaVita India is present across eight cities at 17 state-of-the-art centers. Shriram currently serves as MD & CEO, DaVita Care India Pvt. Ltd. In addition, he is also a senior member of the DaVita Asia Pacific leadership team and heads the Clinical Operations and IT verticals for all five countries under its purview.

Shriram began his career at Mars & Co., a boutique consulting firm based out of New York. During his time there, he advised Fortune 500 Companies in FMCG, Automotive and Health Insurance verticals in the United States, China, Hong Kong and India. He then returned to India as CEO of NU Hospitals, a 75 bed nephro-uro speciality hospital. He currently serves on the board of Express Clinics India Pvt. Ltd., a leading provider of primary care across multiple locations in India which is part of the primary and managed care division of DaVita Healthcare Partners Inc.
